Guten tag! From September 9 through October 28, enjoy authentic German culture, food, and libations at Oktoberfest at Old World in Huntington Beach.  If you’ve never been to Old World, it’s a charming enclave reminiscent of a German village. The buildings are hand painting with traditional designs and flower boxes. They have shops there also to pick up a memento from your visit. Enjoy some fresh bratwurst and live German bands. Don’t forget the dachshund races too! Old World is open all year round.

Surf City Nights in Huntington Beach

A Southern California tradition is Surf City Nights in nearby HB. This popular event happens when they close three blocks on Main Street to traffic and open it up for everyone to freely wander and enjoy the lively happenings. This family-friendly event is very well-attended and includes a mini farmers market, local artists with their original art and crafts for sale, over 90 vender booths, and so much more. Merchants have sidewalk sales and there are lots of restaurants to enjoy a bite to eat. Kids will like it too. They are often bounce houses and street performers and bands. Surf City Nights takes place every Tuesday night from 5-9pm. Can’t beat that iconic pier and Pacific Ocean backdrop!

Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy live music. The Marriott in Newport Beach has a phenomenal summer jazz series. It takes place on Wednesday nights at 6pm until September 19. The settings will be their Rose Garden and the Seaview Terrace. Can’t beat that kind of atmosphere!

Tigers on a carnival Merry Go Round

The OC Fair is a time-honored, summer tradition that is always fun for the entire family. Partake in your favorite carnival foods like funnel cake, deep-fried everything, corn on the cob, turkey legs, tasty sausage, fresh squeezed lemonade, ice cream, and so much more! Take a scenic ride on the Grande Ferris wheel to get a bird’s eye view of the entire fair. Try challenging midway games and win your sweet heart a stuff animal prize. There are great open-air concerts at the Pacific Amphitheater as well. There are plenty of artisans doing demos and showing off their creations. See who won prize ribbons in everything from photography to craft beer. The Fair is only a short drive from home, so it makes it easy. Make sure to put on sunblock, wear sunglasses and comfy shoes, and stay hydrated.
